The Challenge
SkillELECTRIC is the UK's leading electrical skills competition, delivered by NET in partnership with WorldSkills UK and supported by industry leaders including NICEIC, Scolmore Group and Electric Centre. The competition showcases the country's most talented electrical apprentices, giving them the opportunity to compete nationally and progress towards international competitions.
To maximise the impact of the competition, NET required more than traditional event coverage. They needed content that could be captured, edited and published while each event was still taking place, allowing audiences to experience the competition in real time.
Over a five-week period, we travelled across the UK covering all ten national qualifying heats, producing fast-turnaround social media content alongside premium end-of-day highlight films that kept competitors, employers, training providers and industry partners engaged throughout the competition.
The objective was to create a consistent stream of high-quality content that reflected the professionalism and scale of SkillELECTRIC while increasing awareness of the competition across the electrical industry.
Unlike a traditional videography project, this required content to be delivered almost immediately. Each qualifying heat needed real-time social media coverage, allowing organisers to publish updates as the competition unfolded rather than waiting until after the event had finished.
Alongside live content, NET also wanted professional highlight videos that could showcase the competition, celebrate competitors and provide valuable marketing assets for future promotion.
Our Strategy
We acted as SkillELECTRIC's on-the-ground content production team, travelling to every national qualifying heat to capture, edit and deliver content while each event was still taking place.
Our approach focused on producing a mixture of real-time social content and premium end-of-day highlight videos. By planning filming schedules, editing workflows and publication timings in advance, we were able to deliver polished content within hours, helping organisers keep audiences engaged throughout the competition.
Across all ten qualifying heats, we maintained a consistent visual style while adapting to different venues, environments and event schedules. Every piece of content was created with social media in mind, ensuring it was optimised for platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn while showcasing competitors, organisers, venues and industry partners in a professional and engaging way.
This workflow meant SkillELECTRIC maintained a continuous online presence throughout the five-week competition, allowing audiences to experience the journey as it happened rather than only seeing the final outcome.
